My Writing Process
For me, the writing process consists of writing without stopping. I find it easiest to just start writing and let my first thoughts enter the page, no matter if it seems to be good or not. While this is the easiest way for me to get a lot of ideas and words on a page, it can also make me settle with my first copy or first idea. Typically, my first draft is very similar to the final product of my paper. Not to say that my final paper is poorly written and full of grammatical errors, but the story or research and line of thinking is usually exactly the same as when I first wrote my draft. This can really limit my writing because I feel pressured to stay with my original thoughts so I don’t mess it up or try any ideas that won’t go anywhere and be stuck with a weird amalgamation of thoughts that don’t really work together. The benefits, however, are that I can get a lot of writing done quickly so I can focus on fixing any problems with grammar and make everything flow together very well. Personally, I focus a lot on how my writing flows together. If there is a break in my writing that feels off, or if there is a sentence that doesn’t really fit but I still want the thought to be expressed, I notice it in my second or third reading and fix it so that every thought on the page runs smoothly from one to the next.
